Sanja Šišović represents YHO and delivers a keynote presentation on youth health

At the EASL (European Association for the Study of the Liver) Congress 2026 in Barcelona, Sanja Šišović, President of the International Youth Health Organization, delivered a keynote presentation on youth health education as part of the Global Liver Advocacy Network session.

In her presentation, she outlined the importance of YHO’s work in strengthening youth participation in health and highlighted the need to reshape youth education so that young people are not only informed, but also resilient, empowered and actively engaged in health initiatives and decision-making.

Drawing on conversations with young people across Europe, she emphasized that improving liver health and broader health outcomes requires moving beyond information-based approaches towards supportive environments, meaningful participation and health-promoting policies.

EASL is an important space for bringing the youth perspective into health discussions. We are pleased to see that the role of young people in health is becoming increasingly recognized, and that there is growing understanding that youth should be active partners in shaping healthier societies,” said Šišović.
