FILTERED
The FILTERED project aims to strengthen collaborative advocacy and health promotion across Europe to prevent non-communicable diseases (NCDs), with a focus on reducing harm from alcohol, tobacco, and unhealthy food and drink.
Empowering civil society organizations to work together in preventing non-communicable diseases (NCDs) through coordinated advocacy, health promotion, and action is essential to improving public health in Europe. While NCDs remain the leading cause of death and disability, efforts to reduce key risk factors—such as alcohol, tobacco, and unhealthy diets—are often fragmented and disconnected.
The project FILTERED (From sILos To synErgies to pRevEnt ncDs) addresses this challenge by promoting integrated, evidence-based strategies and stronger collaboration between health actors, NGOs, and policymakers. With a focus on building partnerships, supporting national debates, and raising awareness, FILTERED advances a joined-up approach to tackling the root causes of NCDs and creating healthier societies.
Through peer-to-peer learning, national debates, public awareness campaigns, and capacity-building programs, FILTERED helps create lasting partnerships and shared strategies. By moving from isolated efforts (“silos”) to coordinated collaboration (“synergies”), the project works toward a more effective, inclusive, and impactful approach to protecting public health and reducing the burden of chronic diseases in Europe and beyond.
Main goals:
-
Integrated approach to NCD prevention
The project identifies shared priorities with civil society partners and develops a unified strategy based on evidence and stakeholder consultations. -
Breaking down silos
FILTERED connects over 600 public health professionals from EU countries and beyond (Norway, Iceland, Ukraine), fostering joint learning and collaborative action. -
Training for health and policy professionals
More than 100 representatives from public health, policymaking, and journalism are trained in areas such as health communication, commercial determinants of health, pro-health taxation, and storytelling. -
Strengthening civil society partnerships
FILTERED promotes cross-border cooperation on diabetes and cardiovascular disease prevention through alliances among NGOs and public health actors. -
Running awareness campaigns
The project organizes at least two high-visibility campaigns annually, at both national and EU levels, highlighting major NCD risk factors and reaching vulnerable groups. - Focus on Ukraine and the wider region
FILTERED includes targeted actions in Ukraine, ensuring that national and EU-level prevention strategies are inclusive and adaptable to different country contexts.
