Study Session: Mobilising Youth Towards Climate and Health Injustice
11th to 16th September 2023
Budapest, Hungary
Through the study session, we will raise the capacity of young people to advocate for their rights and exercise their right to assemble and participate in political processes pertaining to environmental health and climate change.
Idea and aims
The study session Mobilising Youth Towards Climate and Health Injustice caters to the need of youth capacity building events that are not focused only on knowledge delivery but also adapted to youth in terms of relevancy, methodology and content. A unique advantage of this activity is that it presents the topic in a way that enables young people to deeply engage with the content in a very hands-on approach and gives them tools they can use immediately afterwards for spreading the information, participating in grassroots peer educational activities and engaging in advocacy processes.
The main objectives are:
- To facilitate the transfer of knowledge through peer-to-peer opportunities and provide an open space and safe environment for sharing ideas, experiences and best practice examples;
- To build the capacity of young leaders for climate action and climate health justice;To elevate the voice of youth and empower them to actively participate in decision making at the local, national and international level;
- To build the capacity of young leaders for climate action and climate health justice;
- To raise awareness on the intricate connection between climate change and youth health, as well as the role of organized youth and young individuals in both, personal and professional capacity, for addressing relevant challenges;
- To understand why addressing environmental health is essential in a holistic approach towards healthier and more resilient societies, including epidemiological data and economic impact on society;
- To increase the knowledge on what are the most effective climate mitigation and adaptation strategies and how can youth impact climate policies (on local, national and international level);
- To increase understanding on how to engage in European, national and local policy processes, and plan for future collaborative action;
- To foster collaboration between youth from different backgrounds, educational streams, regions and more;
- To learn how to use policy documents to advocate for effective policies and to ensure the participants are aware of European-level documents, charters and CoE recommendations, which directly reference them;
- To provide a space where they can develop their own ideas for how to serve as multipliers in their own local realities.
