Highway to Wellbeing: Improving Mental Health and Physical Activity of Youth through Human Rights
Date: 9–12 September 2024
Location: Budapest, Hungary
About the study session:
The study session aims to empower youth participants to take action toward increasing mental health and physical activity. With the practical outcomes, they will be able to disseminate gained knowledge in their organisations and local environment.
Objectives
- To understand the epidemiological evidence and societal economic implications on the need of treating mental wellbeing and physical exercise in a comprehensive strategy for healthier and more resilient communities.
- To increase understanding of the relationship between mental health, physical activity, and youth health, as well as the importance of young people and organized youth in both personal and professional capacity for tackling pertinent issues. This includes understanding access to health as a human rights issue, and seeing sport and leisure as not only individual self-care, but as a social question and human rights issue concerning youth.
- To acquire knowledge of the "best buys" in mental health and physical exercise, such as the most efficient methods for coping with challenges and collaborating with others.
- To learn how to use policy documents to advocate for effective policies and to ensure the participants are aware of European-level documents, charters and CoE recommendations, which directly reference them2, such as Council of Europe standards in the field of sports.
- To co-design with the participants various tools (toolkit, monthly well-being challenge) and initiatives to follow up on the study session and drive future impact.
