CALL FOR PARTICIPANTS: Empowering Future Healthcare Leaders to Shape Planetary Health

The International Youth Health Organization, in collaboration with Izmir University of Economics – Medical Faculty and with the support of WHO European Health and Environment Process – Partnership on Youth, is presenting a Youth Event: Empowering Future Healthcare Leaders to Shape Planetary Health.
Idea and aims
Climate change and environmental pollution continue to impact global health and well-being. Rising temperatures, extreme weather events, air and water pollution, and changing disease patterns are affecting individual health and healthcare systems, adding to the burden of the current healthcare workforce crisis.
At the same time, the healthcare sector itself is a significant contributor to global carbon emissions and pollution, creating a complex challenge. Our objective is to educate and empower young people, especially healthcare students, about the connection between environmental health, health of individuals and the healthcare sector. We aim to equip them with the knowledge and skills needed, provide a space for discussion of these interconnected issues, encourage the proposal of solutions, and help them actively contribute and advocate for positive change in global health.
The event will consist of two parts: the Youth Conference (14th March 2025) and the Youth Training (Conference Day; 15th and 16th March 2025).
Youth Conference
Location: Izmir, Türkiye; Online
Duration: 1 Day
No participation fee
Spots available: Unlimited
The conference is a high-level event, where many experts will share insights from their professional and personal perspective.
Additionally, there will be a dedicated session for presenting sustainable youth initiatives, offering a space to ignite inspiration. The event will be held both in-person and online.
Youth Training
Location: Izmir, Türkiye
Duration: 3 Days
Participation fee: 20€ *
Spots available: 20
This event includes participation both at the Youth Conference and Youth Training. After gaining theoretical insights at the conference, participants will deepen their understanding through interactive discussions.
They will also contribute to sustainability by developing local initiatives and co-creating a Youth Declaration. The training is in-person only.
*Participation fee does not cover travel and accommodation – they must be arranged by the participant.
Eligibility and application deadlines
Youth Conference
The event will be held in a hybrid format.
Students residing in Izmir or nearby areas are particularly encouraged to join in-person in order to minimize the environmental impact.

Youth Training
You are eligible to apply if you are:
- A student or graduate of healthcare sciences.
- Under 30 years old.
- Confident in English (English is the working language of the event).

There is no deadline to apply; participants will be accepted on a first-come, first-served basis. If you lose a spot due to not meeting the requirements, or once all spots have been filled, the fee will be fully refunded.
