A Week in Budapest: Young Voices for Planetary Health
In early February, the European Youth Centre Budapest became a hub of energy, ideas, and determination. From 9-14 February, 26 young people from across the Council of Europe’s member states gathered for a study session: “Exploring Planetary Health: Climate, Rights, and Participation.”
Organized by the Council of Europe Youth Department in cooperation with the Youth Health Organization, the week-long programme was more than a series of workshops – it was a holistic journey made of interactive debates, simulations, peer learning, and expert-led sessions, throughout which participants explored the intricate links between the climate crisis, public
health, and democratic participation.
But the knowledge gained was only a scratch on the surface. It was the empowerment that gave the session its true depth. Young people gained practical advocacy skills, discovering how their voices can shape policy, influence decision-making, and spark meaningful change in their communities.
By the end of the week, the message was clear. Planetary health solutions cannot be achieved without youth participation. Yet again, YHO reaffirmed its dedication to youth leadership. Young people left more encouraged, heard, and equipped in building a fairer, healthier, and more sustainable future.
